General Info
  • It’s not enough to kill the adult fleas that you see, you must also eliminate their eggs and the flea larvae
  • Fleas are found throughout most of the United States
  • They are most prevalent in warm and temperate climates year-round (in some colder parts of the country they are only seasonal)
  • Adult fleas are tiny in size, about 1/16” and reproduce quickly
  • Only adult fleas bite – flea larvae feed on dried blood exuded from the adult flea
Where They Live
  • Most adult fleas live on your pet
  • Flea larvae most commonly live in your pet’s favorite resting spots like their bed, chair, or rug
What They Want From You
  • Adult fleas survive on blood
  • They prefer to bite cats and dogs, but will attack humans when a pet cannot be found
Why They’re A Problem
  • Some cats and dogs that are infested with fleas develop dermatitis around the bite area – excessive scratching is common
  • Fleas may also serve as an intermediate host for tapeworms that infect dogs, cats, and occasionally small children
  • Their bites continuously annoy pets and humans
Tips & Tricks
  • Treat your home, pet and pet areas simultaneously
  • Wash pet bedding and rugs your pet may have contacted in hot water to remove existing fleas, eggs, and larvae
  • Shampoo pets regularly with a flea shampoo
  • Vacuuming is a great way to remove many of the immature and un-hatched fleas in your carpet
  • After vacuuming, seal the bag securely in another plastic bag and throw it away outside your home
  • Fleas in their cocoon stage can survive most treatments, so expect to do a follow-up pet treatment 2-3 weeks after the first treatment
  • Give your pet a designated sleeping area that can be cleaned regularly
  • For heavy infestations, steam clean all carpets
